Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) at Virginia Mason is an international leader in immune system research, translating research discoveries into real life applications, bringing new medical advances to people at the earliest opportunity. The Northwest Asthma and Allergy Center (NAAC) is one of the most renowned allergy/immunology practices in the United States, with 15 specialized physicians caring for both adults and children in eight offices across the state of Washington. NAAC’s physicians are highly respected members of the specialty, serving as leaders or advisors on a number of high profile medical committees, including the two largest national allergy societies–American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI)–as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and others. NAAC’s practitioners are clinical faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine and staff on Seattle Children’s Hospital and other local hospitals, and the practice aids in the medical training of University of Washington School of Medicine’s Allergy and Immunology fellows as well as pediatric residents from Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Seattle Allergy & Asthma Research Institute (formerly ASTHMA Inc.) is a 501c3 non-profit center with over 46 years of expertise researching allergies and asthma. SAARI works to find a cure for allergic diseases by conducting crucial clinical research, assisting the University of Washington Fellowship Training Program, and supporting national allergy society initiatives. The organization’s Board of Directors recognizes that food allergy has become the most significant unmet need in the allergy/immunology specialty, and it continuously increases its commitment to food allergy clinical research. The organization has conducted approximately 500 FDA-approved clinical trials to date.

Within SeaFAC, UW Medicine plays a leading role in research and training. UW Medicine is engaged in basic science research on the molecular level (studying reactions that lead to allergic responses) as well as food desensitization studies, maintaining a challenge clinic at UW Medical Center and conducting translational clinical research studies in food allergy. UW Medicine takes the lead within SeaFAC of recruiting and training the next generation of allergy doctors in Seattle, providing the training they require to become experts in the diagnosis and management of food allergies. This expertise enables them to conduct food allergen challenges and further the global body of knowledge about allergic disorders through their research.
